Is Your dog hyper and out of control?

Health Dog

Correct nutrition is critical for every aspect of your dog’s life. It affects their health and wellness by offering a vital balance of proteins, fats, complex carbohydrates and the trace nutrients and minerals their bodies need for the growth and repair o

If your dog starts with minimal nutrition, they become lethargic, grouchy or hyper when they are asked to perform even a simple task. They simply are not able to focus properly and lose concentration after a short period of time. If the dog is constantly being asked to do something they can't focus on, their confusion can lead to aggression or avoidance. In training dogs, the first thing I look at is the dog’s diet. Hyper, unfocused and out of control dogs and puppies often are eating foods with extremely high levels of grains (fillers) such as wheat, corn or barley. Aggressive dogs are often being fed food containing higher levels of incomplete protein which do not digest well. Shy and stressed dogs do not digest their foods well and often suffer from intestinal complications. Their coats are often extremely dry and they shed heavily. One way to test the foods you are feeding is to soak the food in warm water for about fifteen minutes. If it swells in size and becomes somewhat mushy, it is mostly grain. Are your dog’s stools soft and runny? Then your dog is not digesting the food properly.

By looking at the food you are feeding, you will do more to help balance your dogs behavior, as well as contribute to your dogs longevity. A dogs environment and its mental state and what your dog is being fed, are 3 things directly related to the appetite. Through the years we have learned that dogs that appear unthrifty (poor appetite) also have behavior problems such as excessive barking, aggression and digestive upsets to name a few. In the last few years there has been an increase of information regarding Carbohydrate Overload in dogs. Dogs that suffer from carbohydrate overload are often referred to as being "hyper."
Correct nutrition is very important for all aspects of your dog’s life. It affects your dogs health and wellness by offering a balance of proteins, fats, complex carbohydrates and the trace nutrients and minerals your dogs body needs for the growth and repair of the immune system. Nutrition is a vital part of your dog’s ability to think clearly, lower its stress level to produce a calmer demeanor. Thinking requires a lot of energy for any species. Any dog involved in training of any sort will expend a lot of mental energy while learning a task. If your dog starts with very poor nutrition, it may become lethargic, grouchy or hyper. Your dog cannot maintain focus (attention) and will lose concentration rapidly or become completely confused. If your dog is constantly being asked to do something it cannot understand, this often leads to many forms of irritability or more serious problems in your relationship.
Hyper, shy, aggressive or out of control dogs and puppies are often being fed a diet containing extremely high levels of grains such as wheat, corn products, or barley. These grains do not digest well. The coat may appear dry and heavy shedding may be noticed. One way to test the foods you are feeding is to soak the food in warm water for about fifteen minutes. If it swells in size and becomes somewhat mushy, it is mostly grain products. Many times stools are seen as soft or loose and you may notice your dog is very gassy. Many dogs when fed these diets often stop eating because they feel ill after consuming a meal. By examining the diet closely and making appropriate changes you will contribute to your dogs health and longevity. After all we want you to enjoy your dog and the training! Don't forget many treats are high in fats and grains! Closely examine them as well!
Before continuing on we should give some thought to your dogs environment and your current relationship. If your dogs diet has been examined and you found a change was needed, we must also help the dog to relax. Leadership is critical on your part in order to remove any unnecessary stresses. Imagine your dogs lifespan gaining 5 years or more just through your leadership! As long as your dog is allowed to be the leader (making decisions) the stress level on your dog is equal to the president of a corporation! Stress weakens the immune system and allows disease to gain a foot hold. We are going to assist you in lowering your dogs stress level through the coming weeks by elevating your status. Your dog will relax and live much longer once you know what those secrets are!
