Online Networks: There’s Strength in Numbers
09/15/2008 - By David Hoschouer
Reap the benefits of Community Online Networks
These days it’s pretty easy and cost effective to build and publish a website. Just about anyone can do it provided they have the time, equipment, money, and an understanding of how the process works.
With the availability of professionally created site design templates development costs of web sites are relatively low. But you still have to spend and learn to build a site — no way around that. However; Web sites are serious business in today’s environment and while there are less expensive avenues one can take, you still have to be prepared to make an investment equal to your stated goals if you are serious about online success. If you want to cut costs on development; then you need to be prepared to learn what you don’t want to pay a pro to do.
Once you’ve got a site up and running “somewhere” on the World Wide Web, and it looks really good and functions just the way you want it, is the work towards your online success completed? Not even close. It’s at this point where most people fall short of reaching their objective and often experience disappointment due to lack of traffic.
Many people start building websites with the opinion that it should cost very little and not require much of a learning curve and effort. The site launches and just works, just works in the sense being of “somewhere” on the web that is. That “somewhere” isn’t going to be near page 1 of any search engine unless it’s through a paid sponsored link program which can often be expensive.
More than 85% of people today use major search engines to find a specific product or service, and of those people using search engines, 97% of them rarely go any further than the first 10 to 15 results on top of pages. Being “somewhere” on the web isn’t going to get much traffic. The lack of traffic to a site is the number 1 reason why most web sites go off-line in no time due to lack of results. Now that’s one way to save money!
It’s a very common misconception to think because you have a web site you’re going to generate traffic. It’s true just about anyone can build a web site, but it takes a “very” skilled professional to make 1 out of thousands, sometimes millions, of other sites stand apart from the rest, and even then it takes massive amounts of money, time, content, pages, traffic, and links to your site from other sites to have a chance of being found online.
The overall scope of owning 1 out of millions of other web sites may seem a little daunting at times, however; there is hope. Verde Valley Online and the Verde Valley Business Directory by themselves would be just a couple of other website out there on the web today if it wasn’t for the principle of our Networking efforts.
There is indeed strength in numbers when it comes to search engines. The page rankings of search engines are base off five different factors. The amount of time a web site has been up and running, the type of content it has, the number of pages it has, the amount of traffic the site receives, and the number of related links other websites have linking to a site there are.
By themselves a small business has little chance of gaining much exposure online; unless it meets the foregoing criteria, however, combine the power of all the Verde Valley businesses and the goal is attainable.
Every business added to our business directory provides related content, another page, boosts our traffic, creates related links, and keeps us running, which in turn ultimately keeps everyone in our Network progressing towards the same goal.
